Assistant Professor (CC), Department of Ophthalmology
Asst. Prof. Dr. Sohel Mahmud is an accomplished ophthalmologist with specialized expertise in cataract, vitreoretinal surgery and advanced ocular diagnostics. He currently serves as Assistant Professor (CC) in the Department of Ophthalmology at MH Samorita Hospital & Medical College, where he combines clinical care with academic teaching.
Dr. Mahmud completed long-term fellowships in Retina & Vitreous (18 months) and Cataract Surgery (15 months, ORBIS–USA collaboration) at Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital, where he also served as a Junior Consultant and Senior Medical Officer, performing more than 1000 cataract surgeries and over 300 vitreoretinal procedures. He further trained in ophthalmology at BMU (DO, 2014) and NIO (FCPS Part-II Course, 2020).
His clinical interests include cataract, retinal diseases, ROP screening, refractive disorders and advanced anterior & posterior segment surgeries. He has several publications in national ophthalmology journals, including works on postoperative endophthalmitis, OCT analysis in retinal detachment repair, and visual acuity outcomes in foveal microstructure imaging.
Through his surgical expertise, research contributions and dedication to medical education, Dr. Sohel Mahmud continues to advance quality eye care and ophthalmic training in Bangladesh.
